An Evening with Four Female Pioneers of Outdoor Adventure

Sunday March 15, 2015 4PM – North Bend Theatre ::  Doors open at 4 p.m. Event starts at 5 p.m.

What: Stories and inspiration from women adventurers from the Northwest who were breaking down social convention before it was popular, and are adventuring into their golden years.

Liz Kellogg: Ultrarunning Grandma: 65 year old former record holder in the 60+ age group at the White River 50 Mile Endurance Run and one of the oldest women to complete the 100 Mile Cascade Crest Classic.

Carmelita Logerwell: 72 year old multisport adventure athlete who has kayaked the Inside Passage, bike toured Europe, and picked up marathoning recently to keep life interesting after 70.

Cheri Pompeo: 62 year old scuba diver, mountaineer, and running guru. She authored the popular trail running guide “50 Trail Runs in Washington State.”

Helen Thayer: 77 year old international adventure pioneer, and the first woman to ski solo to the North Pole, she is also an accomplished biologist who was compared to Jane Goodall following a year of research spent immersed in a wolf-pack in the Arctic, which she chronicled in her book Three Among the Wolves.

Bonus: Beer from Snoqualmie Brewery and wine from Picolla Wine Company will be for sale before the main event, so come early! Proceeds from beer and wine sales will go to Wide Open Vistas, a local organization supporting education in Nepal. Helen Thayer’s books will also be for sale (or you can buy them here).

This event is being organized by a group of less-experienced female Northwest adventurers who were inspired by tonight’s speakers.  Big thanks to everyone involved, including the organizing committee headed by Angel Mathis, the North Bend Theatre, Wide Open Vistas, and all you wonderful adventurers who are purchasing tickets, beer, & wine. THANK YOU!
